5. Gothic Lace Mason Jars & Candle Votive Holders
Elevate simple mason jars into elegant, gothic candle holders by wrapping them in lace, painting them deep hues, and inserting slender candles or fairy lights.
Concept: Replace the rustic mason jar look with something Victorian-gothic: think black lace wrapped jars, matte black or charcoal jars, metallic accents. Use as votives along a mantel, dining table, or hallway.
Materials & Method:
- Clean mason jars; spray them matte black or dark charcoal.
- Once dry, wrap a panel of black lace (or deep burgundy lace) around each jar and secure with clear adhesive or double-sided tape.
- Add a metallic rim: dip the jar mouth in metallic bronze paint.
- Insert either a slender taper candle, or battery-operated warm-white LED fairy lights with a flicker effect.
- For more texture: glue on small metallic spiders, drape a single faux chain across, or add a velvet ribbon bow.

Styling Tips:
- Line several jars of varying height on a long table runner of crushed velvet, deep burgundy.
- Intermix with tall brass candlesticks (see idea #2), some dried black roses, and a scattering of dark beads/glass stones for sparkle.
- For mantel usage: mount jars on vintage wood plinths at differing heights. The pattern of flickering lace-shadow adds a sense of movement and mystery.
